The COMBINEDBrain Biorepository provides researchers with access to well-documented biospecimens from individuals with rare neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as healthy participants. Samples are collected in partnership with Patient Advocacy Groups and are made available to qualified academic and industry investigators through a structured review process.

All collections occur under an Institutional Review Board–approved research protocol to ensure ethical oversight and appropriate participant consent.

Available Sample Types

The biorepository maintains a wide range of biospecimens relevant to neurological research. Depending on the collection program, available specimens may include:

• Whole blood
• Plasma and serum
• Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)
• Saliva
• Urine
• Buccal swabs
• Nasal brushings
• Fecal samples
• Skin biopsies and fibroblasts

• Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)
• Other derived or established cell lines

• Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
• Other clinically collected specimens
• Post-mortem brain and tissue samples

Sample availability varies by Patient Advocacy Group and collection program.

Request Samples from the COMBINEDBrain Biorepository

Researchers interested in accessing biospecimens may submit a sample request describing their proposed study and the types of specimens required. Requests are reviewed in coordination with the Patient Advocacy Groups representing the contributing communities to ensure alignment with participant consent and community priorities.

If a request is approved, COMBINEDBrain will coordinate execution of the appropriate research agreements, including a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), prior to sample distribution.

To begin the process, please complete the sample request form.

Transfer Samples to the COMBINEDBrain Biorepository

Researchers, institutions, and patient advocacy groups may have existing biospecimen collections that could benefit from centralized storage and broader research access. The COMBINEDBrain Biorepository can work with partners to transfer and manage existing samples within our infrastructure.

Transferred collections may include biospecimens generated through previous research studies, clinical collections, or institutional biobanks. COMBINEDBrain works with contributing partners to review consent, documentation, and governance requirements to ensure samples can be shared with the research community in accordance with participant permissions.

Sample transfers are coordinated through appropriate research agreements and documentation.

Researchers or organizations interested in transferring samples to the COMBINEDBrain Biorepository are encouraged to contact the COMBINEDBrain team to discuss feasibility.
